International Spirit of the Game Day

What is Spirit?

Spirit of the Game is the mindful behavior practiced by players worldwide prior to, during and after a game. It encompasses attitudes and skills such as good knowledge and application of the rules, fair-mindedness, safe play and spatial awareness, clear and calm communication, and a positive and respectful attitude towards teammates, fans, and opponents, in a mutual effort to protect the basic joy of play.

Players must know the rules; be fair-minded and truthful; explain their viewpoint clearly and briefly; and allow opponents a reasonable chance to speak and resolve disputes as quickly as possible, using respectful language.

December 3 is International Spirit of the Game Day.

On this day, communities around the world are encouraged to embrace Spirit of the Game (SOTG) by hosting events, clinics and activities where players can discuss and demonstrate good Spirit. Together these events wil create a global understanding and bond of what SOTG means.

(NEWS: WFDF Partners with E.R.I.C. and will Co-Host International Spirit of the Game Day)

At the heart of the awareness event is an effort to promote the five core aspects of SOTG:

1) know the rules,
2) avoid body contact,
3) be fair-minded,
4) enjoy playing, and
5) communicate respectfully.

Participants who share their events and include one or more of the Spirit images are eligible to win great prizes provided by a growing list of participating merchandise and apparel partners worldwide.

You can participate by adding your activity on the Facebook event, or by tweeting using the hashtag #sotg, or by submitting the activity right here on
